Description & ecology
VALUE AS STATED AT SOURCE (Bani, Pavlova, Echevarria, Mullaj, Reeves, Morel & Sulçe 2010, Botanica Serbica 34:3–14, OA full text read): field leaves of Alyssum murale ranged from 4,730 mg kg⁻¹ (Gjegan, AL) to 20,100 mg kg⁻¹ Ni DW at Pojska, Albania; Table 3 prints 20.1 ± 1.4 (×10³ mg kg⁻¹) for the Pojska population.
Cross-checked against an independent second field survey: Tumi et al. 2012 (Pol. J. Environ. Stud. 21:1855–1866, OA) found Serbian populations reached 13,160 mg kg⁻¹ in leaves (6,793 in shoots), consistent with — but lower than — the Albanian maximum. Serbian maxima are lower across all sites.
NOT the all-time species record: a review (Jakovljević et al. 2022, Bot. Serbica 46:161–178) cites 21,300 mg kg⁻¹ near Osmaniye, Turkey (Reeves & Adıgüzel 2008), but that primary was inaccessible and the tissue unverified, so the measured Bani 2010 maximum is retained as the record value.
Taxonomy: accepted name Odontarrhena muralis (Waldst. & Kit.) Endl. per POWO/GBIF (taxonKey 3693541); the bulk of the literature uses Alyssum murale (GBIF heterotypic synonym 3045111). Note also the live debate over Balkan 'O. muralis' records being re-attributed to O. chalcidica (e.g. Bani 2019 for the Pojskë crop).
